I'm starting a blog from the perspective of a Korean American Hapa because it simply has to be done.

I've lived in several areas as a "military brat" which isn't popular because in some circles it's stereotyped for being poor or broke.
Which is why I majored in Finance at OSU.
Here's a gist of me. I was raised by a very psychotically mean tiger mom from the southern point of the Peninsula. I was raised in the Air Force family which was stationed in Japan so my mom could take "hops" to see her family in South Korea for a good price. I grew up in some of the more RACIST areas because the military has racists in it. Military also has big time diversity which is why I'm very easily accustomed to it and why I strongly disagree with affirmative action.
My dad is a white guy whose a 3rd generation native of San Diego. And he gave me a foreign name in a racist country, then the parents beat us if we tried to change our names to avoid harassment and bullying in school because we were "disrespecting mom's culture".
In reality, we were being punished for the evils of the world that they wanted us to not partake in.
Unfortunately, the U.S. IS a racist country.
The problem with minority groups, ESPECIALLY KOREANS!!! Is that they internalize it instead of fixing the problem. Yes I know it's much easier to patronize from the sidelines and peanut gallery with Google at my fingertips now.
But Koreans have to do a few really important things.
#1. Get your head out of your ass. Get over yourself. Elders too. ESPECIALLY THE ELDERS! Life is a lesson after you've ind yourself in a position of influence and authority.
#2. STOP HATING ON YOURSELVES!!!!! Nobody is going to find a reason to love you unless you can love yourself. YOU have to love yourself and believe in yourself it regardless of what the world is doing. IF you don't love yourself, you can't obey laws or provide for yourself or family-nor can you love others. There is absolutely nothing wrong with self love.
#3. KNOCK IT OFF WITH THE AGENDAS!!!
STOP TEARING EACH OTHER DOWN! YOU ARE NOT SELFISH IN YOUR SUFFERING-YOU ARE *NOT* STRUGGLING ALONE.
YOU TEAR EACH OTHER DOWN, YOU ARE RIPPING YOUR OWN SOUL APART AND DESTROYING YOUR OWN WORLD.
Negativity in punishment is only necessary for correction. Correction is a part of guidance, guidance is the positive. You should never have discipline without a good lesson.
Otherwise you're just tearing people down, which will result in you tearing yourself down.
Don't do it. Please, I beg of you. You're too good for that junk.
#4. ALWAYS BELIEVE IN THE POWER OF YOURSELF. 2 Timothy 3:16
Sometimes the answers are not obvious and you have to rely on the power of your brain.
I recently had to do this. I've stayed in Koreatown for a few weeks and I was flashed by mexican yuckies and my car was badly vandalized with graffiti Friday night. I have always been poor (see discrimination which DOES exist) and didn't have the $500 deductible that State Farm wanted me to pay on the $2500 repair.
Well- Guess what.
I Googled "how to clean the graffiti off of your car" and learned that I could easily get that ugliness off of MY car with microfiber cloth, NON-ACETONE fingernail polish remover and warm soapy water. It really worked. It cost less than $10 to do!
NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF WISDOM.
NEVER UNDERESTIMATE THE POWER OF YOU!!!
I personally strongly feel that western culture respects people who likes themselves (individualism) over someone who is apologizing for their own existence. Even if you have to ACT it...
Self love is never synonymous with abuse of others, especially your own children. And the elders rob children of their livlihoods by taking away their self love.
And yes this will be tested. Do you feel insignificant? Your life is still important. Never forget that.
If you treat people badly without provocation, it makes you look bad.
#5. THRIVING ON NEGATIVITY IS NOT POWER.
Everybody has drama. EVERYBODY.
Stop provoking it.
#6. LEARN ENGLISH.
The reason why people think that Asians are vulnerable is because Asians are either too embarrassed of that accent or they were too lazy to learn (like my Japanese Calculus TA at Ohio State).
Indians speak English in the home, they fare better.
#7. Stop picking everyone around you apart and look at the big picture. You've got so much in your lap- you've got international trade potential, market potential, sector potential....but Koreans would so much rather beat up on each other because they chose to feel less about themselves.
